Analyzing Predictors of Depression in Older Adults with Low Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQOL) using Propensity Score Matching
Cho Seung-Hyun
Abstract
Objective : This study aims to provide foundational data for preventing depression and improving health-related quality of life(HRQOL) in older adults by analyzing predictive factors of depression in individuals with low health-related quality of life.

Methods : Raw data from the 2021 Community Health Survey for individuals aged 65 and older. Propensity score matching was performed based on HRQOL criteria, followed by comparative analysis.
Logistic regression was conducted to analyze the risk of moderate or severe depression in the low HRQOL group.

Results : Older adults with low HRQOL had higher rates of depression, suicidal impulses, stress, and cognitive impairment. Factors increasing the probability of moderate or severe depression included suicidal impulses, cognitive impairment experience, and high stress, while sleep duration, subjective happiness, subjective health, and EQ-5D index decreased the probability.

Conclusion : HRQOL influenced depression, suicidal impulses, cognitive impairment, and stress in older adults. These findings can inform support, education, assessment, treatment, and policy implementation for improving the quality of life for older adults.
